Project Information:

SCOOF2026R_StrathayreP_S1 is a plantation forestry project located at "Strathayre", a property near Macarthur and Broadwater in Victoria's Western District, approximately 35km south of Hamilton. It was registered in May 2026 and covers a property size of roughly 278 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects under the 2022 methodology involve sequestering carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products. A key requirement for establishing a new plantation under this method is that proponents must notify the Minister for Agriculture prior to applying, ensuring the project will not have an undesirable impact on the region's agricultural production.

The Western District of Victoria is traditionally known as a highly productive agricultural zone, primarily utilized for prime lamb, wool, and beef cattle production, alongside rotational cropping. The area benefits from a reliable, high average annual rainfall of approximately 744mm. Located near Mount Napier, a dormant volcano, the local environment features undulating riverine-style country with rich volcanic basalt and clay soils.

Interestingly, the 278ha Strathayre property was sold in May 2026 for $4.65 million as part of a larger $20 million family divestment. It was specifically purchased by a natural capital group looking to implement carbon and forestry initiatives, which directly paved the way for the establishment of this ACCU project just days after the sale.
