ABC Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

ABC Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located in the Wimmera region of Victoria, approximately 18km southwest of the town of Donald. It was registered in May 2026 and covers an area of 261.13ha.

Projects operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new or materially different agricultural management practices to build and store carbon in the soil. Standard requirements include establishing a baseline carbon level through rigorous soil sampling and testing, and subsequently measuring or modelling the carbon drawdown over the project's crediting period.

The Wimmera region is a major agricultural hub known primarily for broadacre dryland farming, including cropping (such as wheat, barley, and legumes) and sheep grazing. The area features a semi-arid climate with moderate to low annual rainfall (averaging around 385mm). Environmental conditions are largely defined by highly fertile "Wimmera cracking clays" (Grey Vertosols) and red calcareous soils, which are highly productive but rely heavily on careful moisture and nutrient management.

This project increases carbon in the soil within the agricultural system by applying nutrients to the land in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address a material deficiency. Managed by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, this intervention encourages greater plant biomass growth, which actively draws more carbon into the soil profile and improves overall soil health.
