Project Information:

Jubal Restoration for the Future- Environmental Planting Project is an environmental planting project located at Mallanganee, approximately 40km west of Casino in northern NSW. It was registered in June 2026 and covers an area of 24.28 hectares.

Environmental planting projects under the Carbon Farming Initiative involve establishing and maintaining permanent, mixed-species native plantings. The FullCAM methodology dictates that these plantings reflect the local native vegetation community's structure and are established at a sufficient stocking density, typically at least 200 stems per hectare, to achieve forest cover. The project activities focus on planting native trees and shrubs that are local to the area.

The Mallanganee region, situated on the Richmond Range, is historically known as "Beef Country" due to its prevalent cattle grazing and farming operations. The area is also highly valued for its forestry and conservation sites, such as the dry land rainforests of Mallanganee National Park. The region experiences a subtropical, high-rainfall climate. Soils in this area are generally highly fertile, featuring alluvial brown clays and black loams, which are often enriched by underlying Tertiary basalt deposits.

This project is led by the Jubal Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal-owned organization that manages the land as a community retreat. The Corporation actively hosts cultural youth camps and diversionary programs on-site. In recent years, the community received disaster recovery grants to repair internal roads, creek crossings, and cultural sites that were severely impacted by landslides. Re-establishing permanent native vegetation through this carbon project will not only generate carbon credits but also serve a vital role in stabilizing the soils and rehabilitating the landscape for future community use.
