'Moya Farm Carbon Project 9

Moya Farm Carbon Project 9 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 16km south of Cadell and 17km west of Waikerie in the Riverland region of South Australia. It was registered in July 2026, and while the exact project area size is unknown, it is part of a larger multi-stage project sequence (Moya Farm Carbon Projects 1 through 9) managed by Agriprove.

Soil carbon projects operating under the Measurement and Models methodology involve implementing new, eligible agricultural management practices to increase the amount of organic carbon stored in the soil. Standard requirements for these projects include establishing a baseline through rigorous initial soil sampling and subsequently using ongoing physical measurement and modelling to verify the carbon increases over time before credits can be issued.

The broader Riverland area along the Murray River is well-known for irrigated horticulture such as vineyards and citrus orchards, alongside broadacre cropping and livestock grazing further inland. The local environment experiences a semi-arid, low-rainfall climate, and the regional soils are typically composed of sandy loams, clay loams, and calcareous Mallee soils.

This project aims to increase carbon in the agricultural system by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. To support this growth, it also incorporates the application of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material soil nutrient deficiencies. Driven by Agriprove, Australia’s leading soil carbon developer, this project is designed to help the landholders turn these sustainability and soil resilience efforts into a viable financial return via the generation of Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs).
