'Moya Farm Carbon Project 8

Moya Farm Carbon Project 8 is a soil organic carbon sequestration project located approximately 130km northeast of Adelaide in the Murraylands/Riverland region of South Australia, roughly situated near the regional towns of Waikerie and Blanchetown. It was registered on July 1, 2026, though the exact project area size remains unknown.

The estimation of soil organic carbon sequestration methodology involves building soil carbon levels in agricultural systems by changing land management practices. These projects typically require strict initial baseline soil testing and ongoing measurement or modelling to prove that carbon is being actively sequestered in the ground over time.

The Murraylands and Riverland areas are largely known for livestock grazing, dryland cropping, and irrigated horticulture near the Murray River. The region is generally classified as semi-arid with low annual rainfall, typically receiving between 250mm and 300mm a year. Soils in this area are generally sandy loams, sandy clays, and calcareous soils derived from underlying limestone.

To achieve carbon sequestration, this project focuses on altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of livestock grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health.
