'Moya Farm Carbon Project 7

'Moya Farm Carbon Project 7' is a soil carbon project located 19km west-south-west of Waikerie and 20km north-east of Blanchetown in the Riverland region of South Australia. It was registered in July 2026 and covers an unknown area.

Soil carbon projects operating under the Measurement and Models (2021) methodology aim to build organic carbon in the agricultural soil system. Standard requirements dictate that proponents must establish baseline soil carbon levels via rigorous physical sampling, and then measure the subsequent carbon drawdown over time using further sampling and modeling after implementing new or materially different management activities.

The local Waikerie and Blanchetown area is known for pastoral grazing and dryland cropping, with irrigated horticulture like citrus and stone fruit growing located closer to the Murray River. The region is considered semi-arid with low annual rainfall averaging roughly 250-300mm, and soils generally consist of sandy loams and calcareous Mallee soils.

This project increases carbon in the soil by altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing to promote soil vegetation cover and improve soil health. Additionally, the proponent is applying nutrients to the land in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency.

This suggests a large property-wide soil carbon strategy, splitting a massive pastoral station into distinct project areas to optimize management practices and generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) across different paddocks.
