Weeaproinah Reforestation Project

Project Information:
Weeaproinah Reforestation Project is an environmental planting project located in Weeaproinah, situated in the Otway Ranges approximately 45km south of Colac and inland from Apollo Bay in Victoria. It was registered on June 17, 2026, and covers an area of 227.41 hectares.
The project uses the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) 2024 methodology. Environmental planting projects involve planting native trees at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare to establish a permanent forest ecosystem. Under standard requirements, the planting must consist of species native to the local area and be maintained to ensure the forest can achieve a minimum of 20% crown cover and reach at least two metres in height.
The Weeaproinah area is known for its highly dependable agricultural land, with regional land use predominantly focused on beef cattle grazing, dairy farming, potato growing, and forestry operations. The project area is highly conducive to reforestation, as it is classified as a high rainfall zone. In fact, Weeaproinah receives some of the highest precipitation in Victoria, averaging nearly 2,000 mm annually. The local soils are highly productive, generally consisting of deep, gently undulating sandy loams, friable brown gradational soils, and fertile clay loams that are well-suited for robust tree growth.
This project establishes permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species that are strictly local to the planting area. A notable feature of the project activities is that the selected species mix is carefully designed to reflect the natural structure and composition of the native Otway vegetation community. The proponent, Coda Carbon Holdings Pty Ltd, is actively expanding its carbon farming portfolio and manages several other permanent vegetation projects across Australia.
