'Moya Farm Carbon Project 5

Moya Farm Carbon Project 5 is a soil carbon project located in the Riverland region approximately 25km south-west of Waikerie in South Australia. It was registered in July 2026. While the exact project area is unknown, the surrounding region is generally known for a mixture of dryland grazing, grain cropping, and irrigated horticulture along the nearby Murray River.

Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models projects involve undertaking new or materially different land management activities to build and store soil carbon. Under this 2021 methodology, standard requirements include taking baseline soil carbon measurements before implementing changes, and conducting subsequent soil sampling rounds every 1 to 5 years to calculate the net abatement.

The Riverland region features a semi-arid climate with very low annual rainfall, typically averaging around 250mm. The soils in this area are highly weathered and often inherently infertile, predominantly featuring deep white sands, sandy loams, and alkaline calcarosols.

This project aims to increase carbon stored in the agricultural soil system by altering the stocking rate, duration, or intensity of grazing (or any combination of such activities) to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. Additionally, the proponent, Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, will be applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address material soil deficiencies.
