FPC 2026 CP6

FPC 2026 CP6 is a Plantation Forestry project located approximately 25km east of Bunbury in the South West region of Western Australia. It was registered in August 2026 and covers an area of 494.43 hectares.

Plantation Forestry projects involve generating carbon abatement by establishing a new plantation forest, converting a short-rotation plantation (typically used for woodchips) to a long-rotation one (for sawlogs), or maintaining a plantation that would otherwise be harvested and not replanted. Under standard methodology requirements, these projects must be managed for the commercial harvesting of wood products and must achieve a stocking density that ensures the forest has the potential to reach at least 2 metres in height and 20% crown cover at maturity.

The region inland from Bunbury is heavily utilized for state forestry operations, dairy farming, and cattle grazing. The environment features a Mediterranean climate classified by high winter rainfall and hot, dry summers. Soils in this specific area generally consist of lateritic gravels, sandy loams, and clay subsoils, which provide highly optimal conditions for robust commercial timber growth.

Managed by the Forest Products Commission, the Western Australian Government's commercial forestry agency, this project sequesters carbon by establishing a new commercial plantation and transitioning existing short-rotation stock to long-rotation timber. By extending the harvest cycle, the project allows trees to grow larger and store significantly more carbon in their biomass, which is ultimately locked away long-term in durable wood products.
