Project Information:
AA2026R_DaveyL_S1S3 is a plantation forestry project located near Deddington, approximately 40 kilometres southeast of Launceston in Tasmania. It was registered on September 9, 2026, and covers an area of 226.78 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects operating under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022 involve establishing new plantation forests or avoiding the conversion of existing or recently harvested plantations to non-forested land. To generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) under this method, standard requirements dictate that the proponent must establish and maintain a viable commercial tree stocking density, ensure sustained forest cover, and actively manage the trees for the commercial harvesting of wood products.
The surrounding region in northeast Tasmania is well-known for commercial forestry operations alongside agricultural land uses such as sheep grazing, beef cattle farming, and cropping. The environment generally features a moderate to high rainfall classification, which is highly suitable for commercial timber production. Local soils in this region are variable but typically consist of podzolic soils, clay loams, and highly productive red clay ferrosols.
This project sequesters carbon through the establishment of a new commercial plantation forest and the avoided conversion of an existing plantation. It is managed by SFM Environmental Solutions acting as the agent for the project proponent, The Trust Company (Australia) Limited as trustee for The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust. This initiative is part of the "ActivAcre" program, which partners with Tasmanian landowners to transform underutilised agricultural land into high-integrity carbon and timber-producing assets, helping to diversify farm income while restoring the environment. The trust and its associated plantation pushes are heavily supported by the federal government's Support Plantation Establishment Program, which provides funding to expand Australia's long-rotation softwood and hardwood plantation forests.
