AA2026R_EllisL_S1 is a Plantation Forestry project located approximately 3km north-east of Fentonbury and roughly 30km north-west of New Norfolk in the Derwent Valley, Tasmania. It was registered in May 2026 and covers 80.47 ha.

Plantation forestry projects sequester carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest, or converting an existing short-rotation plantation into a long-rotation plantation. These projects must be actively managed for the commercial harvesting of wood products and typically require planting at densities sufficient to achieve continuous forest cover at maturity.

The Derwent Valley region is renowned for its diverse agricultural corridor, historically supporting sheep and cattle grazing, orchards, cropping, and commercial forestry. The area experiences a cool maritime climate with moderate annual rainfall, typically ranging from 500mm to 700mm. The local terrain features complex soil types, generally comprising sandy loams over clay subsoils derived from sandstone, alongside patches of highly prized dolerite and basalt soils on the valley slopes.

This project is managed by SFM Environmental Solutions on behalf of The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust. SFM Environmental Solutions specialises in certified forest management and develops blended agroforestry projects that provide dual income streams for landholders through Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) and sustainable commercial timber. To further support these afforestation efforts, the proponent has successfully secured federal funding through the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry's Support Plantation Establishment program.
