'Shady Lane Carbon Project

Shady Lane Carbon Project is an environmental planting project located approximately 25km north of Cummins on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia. It was registered in July 2026, and while it is active, the exact project area size is currently unknown.

The project falls under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology. Environmental planting projects involve establishing and maintaining a permanent mix of native tree and shrub species. To comply with standard carbon farming requirements, these projects must typically be planted at a sufficient stocking density (often a minimum of 200 stems per hectare) to eventually achieve a forest cover of at least 20% crown cover and reach a minimum of 2 meters in height.

The Eyre Peninsula region is well known for its mixed farming enterprises, predominantly dryland agriculture such as wheat and barley cropping, alongside sheep grazing. The area generally experiences a semi-arid to temperate Mediterranean climate characterized by winter-dominant rainfall, and the region's soils are typically calcareous sandy loams and duplex soils.

This project establishes permanent plantings of a mix of native species that are strictly local to the area. A notable feature of this project is that the chosen species mix has been specifically designed to reflect the natural structure, composition, and biodiversity of the local native vegetation community, ensuring an ecologically appropriate restoration.
