Windy Ridge Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Windy Ridge Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located on the Yorke Peninsula, approximately 15km northwest of Ardrossan in South Australia. It was registered in June 2026 and covers an area of 233.86 hectares.

The project operates under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology. This methodology allows landholders to earn Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by building soil organic carbon in grazing or cropping systems. Standard requirements involve establishing a baseline carbon level through rigorous soil sampling, introducing new or materially different eligible land management activities, and tracking carbon stock changes over time using laboratory measurements and modelling.

The Yorke Peninsula is highly regarded as a prime agricultural region, often referred to as the granary of South Australia, with widespread land use dedicated to dryland cropping (such as wheat, barley, and lentils) and sheep grazing. The region features a Mediterranean to semi-arid climate, typically receiving a stable but modest average annual rainfall of 350mm to 500mm. Soils in the area are predominantly alkaline, including calcareous loams, shallow soils over calcrete limestone, and red-brown clay loams.

This project increases carbon in soil in the agricultural system by applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency. It is facilitated by Agriprove Solutions Pty Ltd, a prominent carbon soil-tech developer and project proponent that partners with Australian farmers to improve soil health, increase agricultural yield, and accelerate progress toward a net-negative carbon economy.
