Huxtables Reforestation Project
ERF209124
Project Information:
Huxtables Reforestation Project is an environmental planting project located in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, approximately 20km northeast of Karoonda. It was registered in May 2026 and covers 1,940.33ha.
Environmental planting projects involve planting native trees at a density of at least 200 stems per ha to achieve permanent forest cover. Carbon abatement for these specific projects is modelled using the government's Full Carbon Accounting Model (FullCAM).
The Karoonda area is known for broadacre farming, particularly wheat cropping, as well as sheep grazing. The area is considered semi-arid with low annual rainfall, and soils are generally sandy loams over clay or calcrete subsoils.
This project establishes permanent plantings of a mix of native tree and shrub species that are local to the area. The species mix reflects the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community, which helps to restore degraded agricultural land, reduce wind erosion in the sandy topsoils, and provide vital habitat for local biodiversity.
