Woodaburrup Project

Woodaburrup Project is a plantation forestry project located approximately 30km east of Augusta in the South West region of Western Australia, near Woodaburrup Road and the D'Entrecasteaux National Park. It was registered on August 14, 2026, and covers an area of 246.12 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects under the ACCU scheme involve establishing a new plantation, converting a short-rotation plantation to a long-rotation one, or maintaining a continuing plantation that would otherwise be converted to non-forested land. These projects sequester carbon while maintaining a commercial forest, which generally requires meeting minimum forest cover requirements, such as maintaining a stocking density of trees that will reach at least 2 metres in height and provide a 20% crown cover.

The South West region of Western Australia is highly regarded for its diverse land uses, including robust commercial forestry operations, dairy farming, cattle grazing, and significant environmental conservation areas. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate classified by high winter rainfall. Soils in the vicinity generally consist of coastal sands, sandy loams, and lateritic gravels which are well-suited for timber plantations.

This project sequesters carbon by avoiding the conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land. By establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest, the project will continue to allow for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Interestingly, the proponent, Peppermint Estate Pty Limited, operates as a special-purpose vehicle owned by New Forests, a major global forestry investment manager. Peppermint Estate manages several other similar forestry carbon projects across the scheme, such as the Dunmore and Newyungerup projects.
