Kalima New Plantation Project

Project Information:
Kalima New Plantation Project is a plantation forestry project located approximately 30km east of Esperance in Western Australia. It was registered in June 2026 and covers 14.62 ha.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests or converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation ones to sequester carbon. Standard requirements dictate that these projects must establish tree species with the potential to reach at least 2 meters in height and achieve a minimum crown cover of 20% across the planting area.
The Esperance region is widely known for mixed agricultural land uses, predominantly cattle grazing on permanent pastures and cereal cropping. The area experiences a temperate Mediterranean climate with moderate to high rainfall, and local soils are generally characterized as coastal sandplains featuring deep sands and sandy duplexes over shallow clay layers.
This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest specifically intended for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Interestingly, the project proponent, RB BIO VERDANT PTY LTD, is a relatively newly formed business, having become an active registered Australian Private Company operating out of Western Australia in May 2025.
