Project Information:

Hawthorne Farm Plantation Forestry Project – Teebar QLD (Low Risk Pathway) is a Plantation Forestry project located in Teebar, approximately 48.8 kilometres west of Maryborough in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland. It was registered on May 6, 2026, and covers a compact area of 3.43 hectares.

Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests, converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation, or replanting to ensure continued carbon sequestration. These projects require active management and must meet standard commercial requirements, such as maintaining minimum stocking densities to ensure the successful cultivation and eventual commercial harvesting of wood products.

The Teebar area is deeply rooted in agricultural history, and regional land use is heavily focused on cattle grazing, hobby farming, and regional forestry operations. The local environment features a sub-tropical climate characterized by strong, moderate-to-high rainfall, with historical weather averages for the immediate region recording between 1,128 mm and 1,143 mm annually. The regional soil profile is largely made up of Kurosols and Dermosols, presenting sandy-loam to loam surfaces over acidic clay subsoils, which are highly conducive to supporting timber plantations.

This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest strictly for the commercial harvesting of wood products. An interesting aspect of this site is the proponent: CN Hawthorne Pty Ltd acting as a trustee for the CN Hawthorne Self-Managed Superannuation Fund (SMSF). Utilizing an SMSF to back a micro-scale 3.43-hectare commercial timber plantation highlights an emerging, niche trend of individuals using private retirement trust vehicles to invest directly in localized carbon farming and sustainable agricultural assets.
