Elserae Agriculture Carbon Plus Project

Project Information:
Elserae Agriculture Carbon Plus Project is an environmental planting project located near the rural towns of Maya and Latham, approximately 290km northeast of Perth in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It was registered on April 9, 2026, and covers an area of 5893.22 hectares.
Environmental planting projects under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology involve establishing and maintaining a permanent mix of native tree and shrub species that reflect the local native vegetation community. Under standard requirements for these projects, native species must be planted at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare to ensure the planting achieves genuine forest cover and optimal carbon sequestration.
The surrounding Mid West region is highly regarded for its broadacre farming, with a focus on the continuous cropping of wheat, canola, barley, and lupins. The local climate is considered semi-arid, experiencing low-to-medium rainfall, and the regional soil profiles predominantly feature the deep yellow sands and sandy earths that are characteristic of the Western Australian Wheatbelt.
This project highlights the increasing integration of environmental accounting into traditional broadacre agriculture. The proponent, Elserae Nominees Pty Ltd (acting as Trustee for The David McAlpine Family Trust), operates a modern 6,000-hectare cropping enterprise. To develop their carbon strategy, they have partnered with Planfarm TerraWise Pty Ltd, an independent Western Australian agricultural advisory firm that specialises in helping local grain growers understand, implement, and manage on-farm carbon solutions without compromising their primary agricultural operations.
