Don Hill Wild Dog Valley Plantation
ERF208300
Project Information:
Don Hill Wild Dog Valley Plantation is a plantation forestry project located in Wild Dog Valley, just north of Leongatha in the South Gippsland region of Victoria. It was registered in May 2026 and covers 14.25ha.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests or managing existing ones for commercial timber while sequestering carbon. They must meet specific methodology requirements such as maintaining a minimum stocking density to ensure viable timber yields as well as long-term carbon storage in both the trees and the harvested wood products.
The South Gippsland region is broadly known for dairy farming, cattle grazing, and commercial forestry operations. The area is considered a high-rainfall environment and the soils are generally fertile clay loams, Dermosols, and Sodosols over siltstone.
This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for the commercial harvesting of wood products. Interestingly, the project proponent Donald (Don) Hill is a well-known local identity who formerly served as an independent councillor for the South Gippsland Shire Council.
