Project Information:

Kimbar Park Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located at Kimbar Park, approximately 15km southeast of Parkes in the Central West region of New South Wales. It was registered on April 7, 2026, and covers an area of 92.93 hectares.

The Parkes region is well-known for its mixed farming operations, primarily supporting sheep and cattle grazing alongside broadacre cropping. The area experiences a temperate climate with moderate annual rainfall, typically averaging around 587mm per year. The regional landscape consists of slopes and plains featuring typical local soils such as red-brown earths, Chromosols, Dermosols, and clay loams.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models) Methodology Determination 2021. Soil carbon projects aim to increase the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils through eligible changes in land management. Standard requirements include establishing a baseline soil carbon level via direct soil sampling or modelling, implementing new eligible management activities, and measuring subsequent carbon sequestration over a project period.

For this specific project, the proponent intends to increase soil carbon in their agricultural system by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. These activities are designed to promote better soil vegetation cover and overall soil health.

Notably, the project proponent, Andrew Rice, is a prominent agricultural consultant and mixed-farming operator in the Parkes area who founded ASPIRE agri. He is an active industry figure and has served on several committees, including as Chair of the board for the NSW Rural Assistance Authority (RAA). The carbon project is formally managed by Arice Pty Ltd as Trustee for the Andrew Rice Family Trust, in partnership with the major carbon service provider, Select Carbon Pty Ltd.
