Project Information:
Limestone2026R_Read_S3 is a plantation forestry project located in the Green Triangle region of south-western Victoria, approximately 30km east of the South Australian border near Dartmoor and Mount Gambier. It was registered in June 2026 and covers 258.45 ha.
Plantation forestry projects operating under the avoided conversion method (Schedule 3) involve establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest on land that would otherwise have been cleared and converted to non-forested land, such as agricultural pasture, following a timber harvest.
The Green Triangle region is world-renowned for its commercial timber industry, with land use heavily dominated by softwood and hardwood forestry, as well as livestock grazing and dairy farming. The area is classified as having a temperate, high-rainfall climate which is highly conducive to forestry. Soils in this region are generally productive sandy loams over clay subsoils, as well as limestone-derived soils, which give the Limestone Plantations their name.
This project is part of the Limestone Plantations portfolio owned by major trans-Tasman forestry company OneFortyOne Plantations, with SFM Agribusiness retained as the property and project manager. Generating carbon credits provides the required financial rationale to keep this land as a productive commercial forest for another rotation rather than reverting it back to agriculture.
