Project Information:

Storm Rose Carbon Project 2026 is an environmental and mallee planting project located at the "Storm Rose" farming property in Wilgoyne, approximately 30km northeast of Mukinbudin in Western Australia. It was registered in April 2026 and covers an area of 998.95 ha.

Projects operating under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings (FullCAM) methodology involve establishing permanent native forests on previously cleared agricultural land. To meet the scheme's standard requirements, the planted native trees must achieve a minimum of 20% canopy cover and reach a height of at least 2 metres at maturity. Specifically, this project establishes a mix of local native shrub and tree species, prominently featuring multi-stemmed mallee eucalypts that are well-adapted to the local conditions.

The Shire of Mukinbudin region is historically dominated by broadacre farming, including wheat cropping and livestock grazing. The area is classified as semi-arid with low annual rainfall, and the specific site is characterised by shallow, sandy soils over granite with exposed rocky outcrops.

An interesting note about this project is that it is part of the "Wheatbelt Connect" initiative, a joint venture between INPEX, ANZ, and Qantas designed to integrate strategic native revegetation into broadacre farming systems. The proponent specifically targeted areas of the property that were difficult to crop due to the shallow soils and rocks, which previously caused the regular breaking of agricultural equipment. Converting this marginal land to agroforestry provides the landholder with a diversified income stream through carbon farming while contributing to local and regional biodiversity objectives.
