Ennovo - Commercial Food Waste
ERF208156
Project Information:
Ennovo - Commercial Food Waste is an aggregated waste diversion project operating across South Australia, primarily processing materials from urban and commercial centres in the state. It was registered on March 24, 2026. As an aggregated project, it does not have a single defined project area or coordinates, but rather sources eligible commercial food waste from multiple locations.
Source Separated Organic Waste projects involve diverting eligible organic material away from landfills and transferring it to alternative treatment facilities. By doing so, the project prevents the anaerobic decomposition of organics, directly avoiding the release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the atmosphere.
South Australia features a Mediterranean to semi-arid climate, where local agricultural industries frequently manage carbon-depleted soils. The compost generated from this project is distributed to broadacre and horticultural farms, helping to restore vital soil nutrients, enhance microbial diversity, and improve the soil's water-holding capacity, which is crucial in a drying environment.
The project separates commercial food waste at the point of generation from a single stream and treats it using open windrow composting. The proponent, DBD Environmental Pty Ltd (operating under the Ennovo brand following a merger with Biogas Systems Australia), leverages an innovative telemetry-enabled, automated forced-aeration system called "Carbon Air". This system reduces the need for traditional mechanical windrow turners, driving down operational costs and fuel use while ensuring optimal process control to create high-quality, AS4454-certified compost for Australian farmers.
