Maitland Foods Carbon Project 2

Project Information:
Maitland Foods Carbon Project 2 is a soil organic carbon project located in the Mid North region of South Australia, approximately 31km northwest of the regional centre of Clare and just southeast of the town of Brinkworth. It was registered in March 2026 and covers an area of 523.03ha.
Projects operating under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models (2021) methodology involve adopting new or altered agricultural management practices to increase the amount of carbon stored in the soil. For this specific project, the primary activity involves applying nutrients to the land in the form of a synthetic or non-synthetic fertiliser to address a material deficiency, which increases vegetation biomass and subsequently draws more carbon down into the agricultural soil system.
The region encompassing Brinkworth and the nearby Clare Valley is renowned for broadacre cropping operations, predominantly wheat, barley, legumes, and hay, alongside cattle and sheep grazing. The local environment features a semi-arid to temperate Mediterranean climate, typically receiving around 400mm of annual rainfall, and is characterized by highly productive red-brown earths and clay loam soils.
An interesting note about this project is that it takes place on land operated by Maitland Foods, a multi-generational family farming enterprise based at 'Anama Park'. In addition to their broadacre cropping and contract farming, they utilize their locally sourced durum wheat and pulses to produce a healthy organic snack and pasta brand called "Pangkarra". Furthermore, the project's proponent, AgriProve Solutions, frequently splits large agricultural properties into multiple distinct carbon projects (which is why there are concurrent Maitland Foods Carbon Projects 1, 2, 3, and 4) to better manage risk, stage the implementation of practices, and precisely measure soil carbon variability across different paddocks.
