Taylors Road Landfill Gas Upgrade Project
ERF207613
Project Information:
Taylors Road Landfill Gas Upgrade Project is a landfill gas capture and combustion project located at the Taylors Road Landfill in Dandenong South, approximately 45km south-east of the Melbourne CBD in Victoria. It was registered in May 2026. While the specific project area size is not publicly disclosed, the site operates within a major industrial and manufacturing hub dedicated to resource recovery and waste management.
Projects developed under the Reducing Methane Emissions from Landfill Gas methodology involve capturing the methane generated by decomposing organic waste. In a flaring-only project like this one, the captured methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas, is combusted through a flare. This process destroys the methane by converting it into carbon dioxide, which has a significantly lower global warming potential. This specific project upgrades an existing landfill gas collection system to improve capture efficiency from both legacy and non-legacy waste.
The Dandenong South region experiences a temperate climate with moderate, reliable rainfall typical of the greater Melbourne area. Situated on the south-eastern coastal plains of Port Phillip Bay, the local underlying soils generally consist of alluvial clays, sands, and sandy loams.
Interestingly, the Taylors Road Landfill is Victoria's only facility licensed to receive a broad range of solid 'priority waste', which is often referred to as Category B hazardous waste. The broader precinct is also home to EarthSure, a joint venture between Veolia and Ventia that thermally treats and washes contaminated soil to reduce landfill dependence and recover reusable construction materials.
