Landari Bothwell 2025

Project Information:

Landari Bothwell 2025 is a plantation forestry project located approximately 10km northwest of the town of Bothwell in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. Registered on January 23, 2026, the project covers 240.10 hectares of land in a region traditionally defined by extensive grazing (particularly for fine wool and cattle) and forestry operations. The area experiences a cool-temperate climate with moderate annual rainfall, typically averaging between 530mm and 680mm, which is drier than the western parts of the state. The local soils are generally variable, often consisting of stony clay loams or soils derived from dolerite and sandstone, which are commonly classified as Class 4 or 5 agricultural land suitable for grazing but marginal for intensive cropping.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilizing the "transition to permanent forest" activity (Schedule 4). This involves taking an existing commercial plantation, which might otherwise be harvested and potentially converted to non-forested pasture, and actively managing it as a permanent forest to store carbon long-term. By ceasing commercial harvest cycles and maintaining the tree cover, the project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) based on the avoided emissions from harvesting and the continued sequestration in the growing biomass. The proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is a boutique carbon developer founded by experienced foresters that specializes in integrating carbon income with traditional land management across Tasmania and the mainland.
