Landari Bashan Rd 2025

Project Information:

Landari Bashan Rd 2025 is a plantation forestry project located on Bashan Road near Waddamana in the Central Highlands of Tasmania, approximately 100km northwest of Hobart. It was registered on 23 March 2026 and covers a 55.03ha project area.

Plantation forestry projects operating under this specific methodology involve transitioning an existing short-rotation or commercial plantation into a permanent forest planting. By permanently maintaining the trees, the project sequesters carbon by ensuring the biomass remains intact instead of being commercially harvested. This activity is particularly vital in situations where the plantation is at a high risk of being cleared and converted into non-forested land, such as for agricultural pasture.

The Central Highlands region is historically recognized for sheep and cattle grazing, alongside extensive hardwood and plantation forestry operations. The area is characterized by a cool, temperate, and occasionally sub-alpine climate with moderate to high rainfall, though winters regularly bring snow and freezing temperatures. The soils typically overlie dolerite substrates and range from highly erodible loams to peat soils, which can make them less suitable for intensive cropping but well-aligned for long-term forestry applications.

The project is managed by the proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, an active developer specializing in carbon and biodiversity offsets, focusing heavily on utilizing permanent vegetation to sequester carbon across Australian properties. Interestingly, the project area is situated near the historic village of Waddamana, which is famous for being the site of Tasmania's original hydro-electric power station commissioned in 1916.
