The Kalfarms Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
The Kalfarms Soil Carbon Project is an agricultural soil carbon project located approximately 10km northeast of Cadoux and 50km east of Wongan Hills in the Western Australian Wheatbelt. It was registered on May 14, 2026, and covers an area of 5878.98 hectares.
The Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology involves estimating the sequestration of carbon in agricultural soils. Projects generate carbon credits by implementing new or materially altered land management activities and verifying changes to soil carbon stocks through a rigorous combination of direct physical soil sampling and computer modelling.
The broader Wheatbelt region surrounding Cadoux is known for its extensive broadacre agriculture, primarily focusing on winter grain cropping (such as wheat, barley, and canola) alongside sheep grazing. The area experiences a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with typical annual rainfall of roughly 300mm to 350mm. The landscape generally features a mix of soil types typical of the central Wheatbelt, including sandy loams, gravelly earth, and clays, which can sometimes be susceptible to constraints such as subsoil acidity or compaction.
This specific project aims to increase carbon in the agricultural soil system through several new activities. These include applying nutrients in the form of synthetic or non-synthetic fertilisers to address material deficiencies, modifying landscape or landform features to remediate land, and retaining stubble after a crop is harvested. Additionally, the proponents are using mechanical means to add or redistribute soil through the soil profile, and planting cover crops to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health.
An interesting note about this project is that it is situated on Kalfarms, a large property operated by the Kalajzic family, who are established broadacre farmers based in Cadoux. The project was developed in partnership with the proponent, Intuit Earth Pty Ltd (trading as Carbon Sync), a prominent Western Australian project developer that specialises in assisting broadacre farmers transition toward regenerative agriculture and soil carbon farming.
