Kleenheat Energy Use Efficiencies Project

Kleenheat Energy Use Efficiencies Project is an energy efficiency project located at the Kleenheat production facility in the Kwinana Industrial Area, approximately 40km south of Perth in Western Australia. It was registered on February 11, 2026, and its specific project area size is unknown, as it operates within the footprint of an existing industrial site rather than across a broad land expanse.

Industrial and Commercial Emissions Reduction projects involve reducing emissions from energy use or industrial processes by modifying, removing, or replacing existing emissions-producing equipment. Under this methodology, proponents must establish a baseline emissions model to estimate the emissions that would occur in the absence of the project, demonstrating that the reductions are a direct result of project activities and would not have occurred without the ACCU scheme.

The Kwinana Industrial Area is a premier industrial hub characterized by heavy land use, hosting oil refineries, chemical processing plants, and bulk logistics. Environmentally, this coastal region is situated on the Swan Coastal Plain, which typically features deep sandy soils, including Bassendean sands and coastal dunes. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate with moderate, winter-dominant rainfall averaging around 700mm to 800mm annually.

The project proponent, Wesfarmers LPG Pty Ltd (trading as Kleenheat), operates the Kwinana facility to extract liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from natural gas, producing and wholesaling propane and butane. This carbon project was set up to improve production efficiencies and reduce both energy and process emissions at the facility by changing the way existing equipment is controlled and augmenting it with new, more efficient technology.
