Kleenheat Energy Use Efficiencies Project

Project Information:

Kleenheat Energy Use Efficiencies Project is an energy efficiency project located at the Kleenheat production facility in the Kwinana Industrial Area, approximately 40km south of Perth in Western Australia. It was registered in February 2026, and while the exact project footprint is unknown, it operates within a major heavy industrial precinct.

Industrial and Commercial Emissions Reduction projects involve upgrading, modifying, or replacing existing equipment to lower energy consumption and reduce process emissions compared to historical baselines. For this project, activities focus on changing the way emissions-producing equipment is controlled and installing more efficient technology.

The Kwinana area is dominated by heavy industrial operations, refineries, and port facilities. Situated on the Swan Coastal Plain, the surrounding environment experiences a Mediterranean climate characterised by hot, dry summers and moderate winter rainfall, with predominantly coastal sandy soils.

Interestingly, this project is part of Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy and Fertilisers' (WesCEF) broader decarbonisation strategy, which aims for net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2050. While Kleenheat sold off its LPG and LNG distribution businesses in December 2024, it explicitly retained the Kwinana production facility where these structural and operational efficiency upgrades are taking place.
