Landari Victoria Valley S3 2025

Project Information:
Landari Victoria Valley S3 2025 is a plantation forestry project located in the rural locality of Victoria Valley within the Central Highlands of Tasmania. The project area, covering approximately 166 hectares, is situated roughly 30 to 40 kilometers northwest of the town of Hamilton and north of Ouse. This region is characterized by a cool temperate climate and a mosaic of land uses, primarily consisting of commercial forestry operations, cattle grazing, and conservation areas near the Great Western Tiers.
Registered on January 20, 2026, the project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it employs a "Schedule 3" activity, which involves the avoided conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land. Under standard commercial conditions, the baseline scenario implies this land would have been cleared for agricultural use, such as pasture. Instead, the project proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, commits to re-establishing and maintaining the plantation forest for continued commercial harvesting. This activity sustains higher average carbon stocks in the landscape compared to the alternative agricultural land use.
The environmental setting of Victoria Valley is defined by its substantial rainfall, typically ranging between 750mm and 1000mm annually, which supports vigorous tree growth (commonly Eucalyptus delegatensis or E. nitens in plantations). The terrain is underlain by Jurassic dolerite, producing stony, brown, gradational soils that are generally fertile but often contain heavy clay subsoils. These soil characteristics make the land well-suited for forestry but can be marginal for intensive cropping. Landari Pty Ltd is a specialist developer in this sector, managing numerous carbon and biodiversity offset projects across Tasmania that focus on both permanent vegetation retention and sustainable plantation cycles.
