Down Under Regen Ranch

Project Information:

Down Under Regen Ranch is a soil carbon project located approximately 20km northwest of Yeoval and 90km northwest of Orange, within the Cabonne local government area of New South Wales. It was registered on February 17, 2026, and covers an area of 1,858.04 hectares.

Soil carbon projects operating under the 2021 Measurement and Models methodology involve storing carbon by increasing the amount of organic matter in the soil through new or materially different agricultural management practices. Standard requirements include establishing a baseline through direct soil sampling before the project begins, followed by periodic measurements and modelling to estimate the carbon sequestered over the project's lifetime.

The Cabonne region is heavily agricultural, often referred to as "Australia's Food Basket", and is well known for mixed farming operations that combine cattle and sheep grazing with broadacre cropping like wheat and canola. The environment in this part of the Central West slopes and plains is characterised by moderate, temperate rainfall, and undulating landscapes featuring fertile loam and clay soils.

Proponents David and Rinde Grattan, in partnership with carbon project developer Climate Friendly Pty Ltd, set up this project to increase carbon in their agricultural system. The project activities will involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material soil deficiencies, alongside altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of livestock grazing. These targeted changes are designed to promote soil vegetation cover, improve overall soil health, and sustainably sequester atmospheric carbon into the ground.
