Bonyi Soil Carbon Project

Project Information:
Bonyi Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located approximately 30km northeast of Goondiwindi in Queensland. It was registered in February 2026 and covers 3,252.95 hectares.
The project falls under the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models methodology. Soil organic carbon projects involve building the amount of carbon stored in the soil by implementing new or altered agricultural management practices, and measuring this increase over time using a combination of direct soil sampling and modeling.
The Goondiwindi area is a major agricultural hub known for high-value cropping, including cotton and cereals, as well as sheep and cattle grazing. The region features a semi-arid to temperate climate with summer-dominant rainfall, averaging around 620mm annually. Soils in the area are typically highly reactive cracking clays (vertosols), sodosols, and dermosols, often associated with fertile Brigalow plains and alluvial deposits.
This project aims to increase carbon in the soil by altering the stocking rate, duration, and intensity of grazing. These activities are designed to promote soil vegetation cover and improve overall soil health. In addition, the project involves introducing legume species into the property's cropping or pasture systems to further enhance organic matter and nitrogen fixation. The project is being undertaken with Carbon Link Operations Pty Ltd, an active developer in the Australian soil carbon space.
