Landari Glenmark 2025

Project Information:

Landari Glenmark 2025 is a Plantation Forestry carbon project located on the historic "Glenmark" property near Dee Lagoon, approximately 20km north of the township of Ouse in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. Registered on December 21, 2025, the project covers a net area of roughly 404 hectares. The site sits within a region traditionally used for grazing (sheep and cattle) and commercial forestry, situated near the Lyell Highway which connects Hobart to the West Coast.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022. Specifically, it involves the activity of transitioning an existing commercial plantation into a permanent forest. Under standard commercial operations, these trees would likely be harvested and the land potentially converted to non-forest use (such as pasture). By committing to maintain the plantation permanently (locking in the carbon stocks for 25 or 100 years), the project generates Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) equivalent to the emissions avoided from harvesting and land clearing.

Environmentally, the Central Highlands region experiences a cool temperate climate. While the area receives reliable moisture, it sits in a slight rain shadow compared to the wetter West Coast, typically averaging between 600mm and 1000mm of rainfall annually. The terrain is characterized by rolling hills with soils that are predominantly dolerite-derived clays and loams. These soils are generally fertile and well-structured, supporting the vigorous growth of the plantation species (typically Eucalyptus nitens or Pinus radiata in this region) alongside native wet and dry sclerophyll vegetation.

An interesting historical note is that the "Glenmark" property has roots dating back to early colonial settlement in Tasmania, historically associated with prominent grazing families. The proponent, Landari Pty Ltd, is an experienced developer in the Tasmanian sector, managing multiple similar projects (such as Landari Rossarden and Landari Dunalley) that transition forestry assets into carbon conservation estates.
