Nullwarra Improvement Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Nullwarra Improvement Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon project located approximately 35km southwest of Cobar in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in late November 2025, the project covers a project area of nearly 540 hectares. The site sits within the Cobar Shire, a region traditionally dominated by rangeland grazing (sheep, goats, and cattle) and mining activities.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon levels relative to a measured baseline. To achieve this, the project involves specific land management activities such as applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to correct nutrient deficiencies and altering grazing intensity or duration to improve ground cover. These changes are designed to stimulate plant growth and root biomass, thereby sequestering more atmospheric carbon into the soil profile.

Environmentally, the Cobar Peneplain region is characterized by a semi-arid climate with unreliable rainfall, averaging around 390mm annually. The landscape typically features undulating plains with red earth and loamy-clay soils, often supporting vegetation such as bimble box, white cypress pine, and mulga. This specific project appears to be part of a larger engagement with carbon markets by the landholder, as evidenced by the registration of multiple "Nullwarra" sequenced projects (e.g., Nullwarra Improvement Carbon Project 7 and Nullwarra Improvement Carbon Project 9) in the same timeframe.
