Mirboo North South Hill Project
ERF206169
Project Information:
Mirboo North South Hill Project is a plantation forestry project located approximately 2km southwest of the township of Mirboo North in the Gippsland region of Victoria. Registered in December 2025, the project covers a small area of 7.65 hectares. The site is situated within the Strzelecki Ranges, a region historically significant for its dense forests and timber production.
The project operates under the 2022 Plantation Forestry methodology, which allows landholders to generate Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) by establishing new timber plantations on land that has been clear of forest for at least seven years. Unlike environmental plantings which are permanent, this methodology includes provisions for commercial harvesting, sequestering carbon in the wood products extracted as well as the living trees. This specific project involves the establishment of a new plantation forest intended for commercial wood production.
The Mirboo North area is characterized by a high-rainfall, temperate climate and is well known for its deep, fertile red ferrosols (volcanic clay-loams). These environmental conditions are ideal for vigorous tree growth, supporting the region's prominent dairy, potato farming, and forestry industries.
