Rocky Springs Cattle Co Project

Project Information:

Rocky Springs Cattle Co Project is an environmental planting project located in the North Burnett region of Queensland, approximately 50km southwest of Eidsvold and 60km west of Mundubbera. Registered on November 17, 2025, the project covers a land area of 215.84 hectares.

The North Burnett region is widely recognized as prime cattle country, often referred to as the "Beef Capital" of the Burnett. The landscape is characterized by a sub-tropical to semi-arid climate with summer-dominant rainfall averaging between 650mm and 750mm annually. Soils in this specific locality, near the Auburn River catchment, are typically variable, ranging from sandy loams to texture-contrast soils (Chromosols and Sodosols) which support native pastures suitable for grazing.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM 2024 methodology. This method requires the establishment of permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species on land that has been clear of forest for at least five years. The planting density, typically established to ensure forest cover potential, aims to sequester carbon in the vegetation while potentially providing co-benefits such as shade and shelter for livestock.

Interestingly, the proponent, Kobi Schooley, along with the Schooley family, manages the "Rocky Springs" property running a mix of Hereford and Angus cattle. The family has been actively involved in industry education, participating in Meat & Livestock Australia’s (MLA) Carbon EDGE workshops to integrate carbon farming successfully with their beef production operations.
