Forbes Aggregation - Glencoe Marsden South
ERF206017
Project Information:
Forbes Aggregation - Glencoe Marsden South is an environmental planting project located approximately 60 kilometers west of Forbes in the Central West region of New South Wales. Registered in October 2025, the project covers a total area of 33.71 hectares. The site is situated within the productive agricultural zone of the Lachlan Valley, near the locality of Marsden. The project is situated on the "Glencoe" property, which has historically been associated with significant agricultural aggregations such as Sunshine Farms, known for high-value cropping and livestock operations.
The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) (Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM) Methodology Determination 2024. This methodology involves establishing permanent plantings of native tree and shrub species on land that was previously cleared for agricultural use. The planting mix is designed to reflect the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community, typically requiring a stocking density sufficient to achieve forest cover (often defined as potential to reach 20% crown cover and 2 meters in height). As an environmental planting, the project aims to sequester carbon in the biomass of the trees while providing co-benefits such as shelter for livestock, reduced soil erosion, and improved local biodiversity.
The region is characterized by a semi-arid to temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm to 600mm. The landscape features flat to gently undulating plains with soils dominated by red-brown earths and cracking clay loams (often referred to as the "Marsden" soil landscape). These heavy soils are highly fertile and support extensive mixed farming, including winter cereals (wheat, barley) and grazing. The specific project area, being relatively small (33ha) compared to the surrounding broadacre properties, suggests a strategic integration of carbon farming into the existing agricultural landscape, likely in the form of shelterbelts or biodiversity corridors.
The proponent, NBS Agriculture Pty Ltd, is an Australian agricultural entity registered in late 2023. Public records link the company to partnerships involving major agricultural players like Duxton Farms, indicating a corporate approach to integrating natural capital solutions with traditional farming.
