Myanbah East Soil Carbon Project

Myanbah East Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon project located at Yarrowyck, approximately 35 kilometers west of the regional city of Armidale and 24 kilometers north of Uralla on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales. The project was registered in October 2025 and covers an area of roughly 368 hectares. The property, known locally as "East Myanbah," is situated in a region heavily utilized for grazing, particularly for fine wool Merino sheep and beef cattle production, with some areas suitable for fodder cropping.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models). This method requires project proponents to establish a baseline of soil carbon stocks through physical sampling and then implement new land management activities designed to increase those stocks over time. For this specific project, the primary activity involves applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material soil deficiencies, thereby boosting plant growth and soil organic matter.

Environmentally, the Yarrowyck area is characterized by a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 720mm. The landscape at East Myanbah is described as having a mix of flat to gently undulating terrain with scattered timber, including Apple Box, Stringybark, and White Gum. The soils in this locality are typically a mix of trap soils and fine granite, which are well-regarded for their grazing potential when managed effectively.

An interesting facet of this project is its connection to the local service provider, Precision Pastures, based nearby in Armidale. Precision Pastures is a prominent soil carbon developer and agronomy firm in the New England region. The property "East Myanbah" was the subject of a real estate transaction in late 2024, suggesting the new ownership, Stockbridge Australia Pty Ltd as trustee for JHW Holdings Trust, initiated the carbon project shortly after acquiring the land to integrate carbon farming with traditional grazing operations.
