Project Information:

The Emerald Forest (Strang Road) Land Restoration Project is an environmental planting project located at Ravenshoe, approximately 120km southwest of Cairns in the Atherton Tablelands region of Queensland. Registered in October 2025, the project covers nearly 25 hectares on Strang Road. The proponent, Emerald Forest Land Pty Ltd (as trustee for The Emerald Forest Trust), is an active participant in the region's conservation sector, managing other restoration initiatives aimed at creating wildlife corridors between local National Parks.

The project operates under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology, which involves establishing permanent native vegetation to sequester carbon. Standard requirements for this project type include planting species local to the area at a density sufficient to achieve forest cover (typically at least 200 stems per hectare) and maintaining the forest for a permanence period, usually 25 or 100 years. This specific project focuses on a mix of native tree and shrub species designed to replicate the structure of the surrounding native vegetation community.

Ravenshoe is known as Queensland's highest town, situated in a region characterized by its "wet tropics" climate and rich, red volcanic (basalt) soils. The area receives high rainfall, supporting lush vegetation and diverse agriculture, including grazing and cropping. The proponent's broader work in the area suggests a strong focus on biodiversity co-benefits, utilizing these plantings not just for carbon abatement but to support local wildlife populations in the fragmented rainforest landscape.
