Penola Plantations 2026 – P26-5 Nangwarry Central

Project Information:
Penola Plantations 2026 – P26-5 Nangwarry Central is a plantation forestry project located near the township of Nangwarry in South Australia's Wattle Range local government area. It was registered in September 2025 and covers 121.42 ha.
Plantation forestry projects undertaking avoided conversion activities involve continuing rotational harvest cycles in an existing plantation forest. Standard requirements dictate that these projects must provide an independent financial assessment to prove that, without the carbon project, the plantation was at risk of being converted to a more financially attractive non-forested land use. They must also be located in or within 50 kilometres of a National Plantation Inventory (NPI) region.
The Nangwarry area is situated within the prominent Green Triangle region, which is historically known for extensive commercial forestry operations, alongside grazing and viticulture. The environment typically experiences a moderate to high, reliable rainfall classification. Soils in the region are generally sandy loams over clay profiles or limestone-derived terra rossa soils.
This project sequesters carbon by establishing and maintaining a new plantation forest for commercial harvesting of wood products, effectively preventing its conversion to non-forested land. The proponent, Timberlands Pacific, is an independent forest management company that manages the 47,000-hectare Penola Plantations radiata pine estate across the Green Triangle region on behalf of the Green Triangle Forest Operating Sub Trust.
