Project Information:

Penola Plantations 2026 – P26-3 Myaring West is a plantation forestry project located in the locality of Myaring, approximately 25 kilometers west of Casterton in south-west Victoria. Registered in October 2025, the project covers nearly 270 hectares within the Shire of Glenelg. This site lies within the renowned "Green Triangle," a major forestry hub spanning the border of South Australia and Victoria, known for its extensive Radiata Pine estates.

The project operates under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, specifically utilizing the "avoided conversion" activity. This classification indicates that the land, previously harvested or existing as plantation, was at risk of being converted to non-forested uses, typically agriculture such as grazing or cropping, but will instead be re-established and maintained as a commercial plantation. By continuing the forestry cycle, the project sequesters carbon in the wood products and forest biomass that would otherwise be lost if the land reverted to pasture.

Environmentally, the Myaring region is characterized by high, reliable rainfall, which is essential for supporting the dense timber stocks typical of the Green Triangle. The soils in this area are generally described as sandy loams to clay loams (often classified as Chromosols), providing the drainage and depth required for pine cultivation. The project is managed by Timberlands Pacific Pty Ltd on behalf of the Green Triangle Forest Operating Sub Trust, part of a larger estate management strategy often linked to investment managers like New Forests.
