Project Information:
AA2025R_DorigoL_S1S3 is a plantation forestry project located in the West Tamar local government area, approximately 30km northwest of Launceston in Tasmania. It was registered in September 2025 and covers an area of 59.92 hectares.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing and maintaining new plantation forests, or preventing the conversion of existing plantations to non-forested land. Standard methodology requirements ensure that trees are planted at a stocking density suitable for commercial timber operations and the land must be actively managed to yield harvestable wood products while sequestering carbon in the landscape.
The West Tamar region is well known for diverse agricultural activities, including grazing, viticulture, and extensive commercial forestry operations. The area is classified as having moderate to high rainfall, creating ideal growing conditions, and the soils generally consist of fertile clay loams, dermosols, and basalt-derived ferrosols.
This project was specifically set up to sequester carbon by avoiding the conversion of a harvested plantation to non-forested land, while simultaneously establishing a new plantation forest for commercial harvesting. Managed by SFM Environmental Solutions as an agent for the Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust, this project is part of the broader "ActivAcre" program. This initiative allows landowners to lease portions of their land for commercial tree planting, integrating shelterbelts into existing farming operations to provide a diversified income stream through both sustainable timber harvesting and ACCU generation.
