Project Information:
AA2025R_DorigoL_S1S3 is a plantation forestry project located in the West Tamar region, approximately 35km northwest of Launceston in Tasmania. It was registered in September 2025 and covers an area of 59.92 ha.
Plantation forestry projects involve establishing new plantation forests, modifying rotation times, or maintaining existing plantations for the commercial harvesting of wood products. To qualify, the methodology requires establishing and maintaining trees at a stocking density sufficient to achieve forest cover, which generally means trees will reach at least two metres in height and provide at least 20% crown cover.
The West Tamar area is known for a mix of grazing, dairy farming, agriculture, and production forestry operations, with forestry often situated at higher elevations or on less fertile soils. The region typically experiences high rainfall and features a diverse array of soil types, including rich basalts (krasnozems), clay loams, and sandy loams.
This project sequesters carbon through two main activities: establishing a new commercial plantation forest and avoiding the conversion of an existing or harvested plantation to non-forested land. The project is managed by SFM Environmental Solutions, an independent, 100% Tasmanian-owned forest management company that has operated since 2001, acting as an agent for the proponent, The Trust Company (Australia) Limited as trustee for The Tasmanian Carbon Afforestation Sub-Trust.
