Project Information:

FPC 2026 CP1 is a plantation forestry project located in the commercial forestry region of Grimwade, approximately 40km southeast of Collie in Western Australia. Registered in August 2025, the project covers a substantial area of 658 hectares. The surrounding region is heavily utilized for state forestry operations and mixed grazing, situated within the prime softwood growing zone of the South West.

The project operates under the Plantation Forestry (2022) methodology, which credits the carbon sequestered by establishing new plantation forests or converting short-rotation plantations to long-rotation. In this instance, the Forest Products Commission (FPC) is establishing new softwood plantations (likely Radiata Pine) on land that has not recently supported forest. Unlike environmental plantings, this method allows for commercial harvesting, meaning the trees will eventually be processed for timber products while generating carbon credits during their growth cycle.

Environmentally, the site sits within a high-rainfall Mediterranean climate zone, characterized by wet winters and dry summers, which is essential for supporting dense timber growth. The soils in this area are typically ironstone gravels and lateritic sandy loams, well-suited for forestry due to their drainage properties. This project is part of the WA Government's broader $350 million Softwood Plantation Investment Program, aimed at securing the state's future timber supply and contributing to net-zero targets.
