Snowy Reforestation Project

Project Information:
Snowy Reforestation Project is an environmental planting project located in the Snowy Monaro Regional local government area, approximately 25-30km south of Jindabyne in New South Wales. It was registered on August 29, 2025, and covers a substantial 4,483.83 hectares. The surrounding region is historically known for sheep and cattle grazing operations, as well as alpine conservation and forestry.
Operating under the Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings methodology, the project involves establishing and maintaining permanent native trees and shrubs to sequester atmospheric carbon. Standard requirements for this project type generally require a minimum planting density of 200 stems per hectare to ensure the site eventually reaches forest cover thresholds of at least 2 metres in height and 20% crown cover.
Given its positioning near the Snowy Mountains, the project area experiences moderate to high rainfall influenced by the sub-alpine climate. The soils in this tableland region are typically granite-derived podzolic soils mixed with occasional basalt and clay loams, which can well support local native flora.
A notable ecological feature of this project is its commitment to local biodiversity; the permanent plantings utilize a specific mix of native tree and shrub species that directly reflect the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community. Additionally, public records indicate a recent proponent change; on January 15, 2026, the participant name was formally varied from Carbon Projects Co Pty Ltd to Snowy Climate Pty Ltd.
