Claverley Carbon Project 1

Project Information:

Claverley Carbon Project 1 is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 40km northwest of Deniliquin in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2025, the project covers a project area of 256.59 hectares. The site is situated within the Edward River Council area, a region extensively utilized for irrigated and dryland agriculture, particularly sheep grazing and cropping.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology (Measurement and Models), which credits abatement generated by increasing soil organic carbon stocks. To achieve this, the project activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address nutrient deficiencies and rejuvenating pastures through seeding. These management changes are designed to boost plant growth and root biomass, thereby drawing more carbon from the atmosphere into the soil.

The local environment is characterized by a semi-arid climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 400mm, though this can be variable. The landscape typically consists of flat alluvial plains featuring Red-brown earths (Chromosols) and heavy grey or brown clays (Vertosols/Sodosols), which are common in the Riverina's riverine plain. The "Claverley" property itself has a history of livestock production, specifically associated with merino sheep grazing.
