Claverley Carbon Project 2

Project Information:

Claverley Carbon Project 2 is a soil carbon sequestration project located at Claverley Station, approximately 45km northwest of Deniliquin in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in November 2025, the project covers a designated area of 857 hectares within the larger agricultural holding. The property is situated along the Moulamein Road and operates as a mixed farming enterprise, historically utilized for grazing Merino sheep and cropping activities such as wheat and canola production.

The project operates under the 2021 Soil Organic Carbon methodology, which credits landholders for increasing the amount of carbon stored in their soil. To achieve this, the project activities involve applying synthetic or non-synthetic fertilizers to address material nutrient deficiencies, thereby boosting plant growth and soil organic matter. The surrounding Riverina environment is characterized by a semi-arid climate with winter-dominant rainfall. The terrain is typical of the riverine plains, featuring soil types that predominantly include Chromosols (texture-contrast soils) and Vertosols (cracking clays), which are productive but often require careful management to maintain structure and fertility.

Interesting notes about the property include its long-standing association with the Gatacre family, who have managed the land for generations. The property has historically been linked to high-quality wool production, often trading sheep with Tupra bloodlines. The shift towards a registered carbon project suggests a strategic integration of carbon farming alongside traditional agricultural expansion, as previous sales listings indicated a move to expand the property's cropping program.
