Project Information:
AA2026R_WoodsdaleKP_S1 is a plantation forestry project located in the rural locality of Woodsdale, approximately 35 kilometers east of Oatlands and 90 kilometers north of Hobart in Tasmania. Registered in August 2025, the project covers roughly 160 hectares of land in the Southern Midlands region. The "AA" in the project name likely refers to "ActivAcre," a program managed by SFM Environmental Solutions that partners with landowners to establish commercial timber and carbon plantations.
The Woodsdale area sits on the eastern fringe of the Southern Midlands, a region characterized by a mix of grazing (sheep and cattle) and forestry operations. The environment typically features a cool temperate climate with moderate rainfall, generally falling between 600mm and 800mm annually, which supports viable timber production. The local terrain often consists of undulating hills with soils largely derived from Jurassic dolerite, providing the clay-rich, fertile base common to Tasmania’s productive forestry zones.
Operating under the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative, Plantation Forestry) Methodology Determination 2022, this project involves establishing a new plantation forest on land that was previously used for other agricultural purposes. Unlike permanent environmental plantings, this methodology allows for the commercial harvesting of timber. Carbon credits are generated based on the long-term average carbon stored in the trees and the wood products derived from them, incentivizing the creation of new timber resources while sequestering atmospheric carbon.
