Malabar Environmental Planting Project

Project Information:

The Malabar Environmental Planting Project is an environmental planting project located at the "Malabar" property, approximately 15 kilometres northwest of the township of Young in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales. Registered on September 3, 2025, the project covers a relatively small area of 20.18 hectares, suggesting it is likely comprised of shelterbelts or riparian corridors integrated into a larger agricultural operation.

The project operates under the "Reforestation by Environmental or Mallee Plantings-FullCAM" methodology. This involves establishing permanent plantings of mixed native tree and shrub species that are indigenous to the local area. The goal is to achieve forest cover, sequester carbon, and enhance biodiversity, with the carbon abatement calculated using the FullCAM model. As an environmental planting, the trees are protected for a permanence period (typically 25 or 100 years) and are not harvested for timber.

The surrounding region is highly regarded for mixed farming, specifically winter cropping (wheat and canola) and livestock grazing (sheep and beef cattle). The Malabar property itself is characterized by granite-based red soils and fertile creek flats, benefiting from a reliable average annual rainfall of approximately 650mm. The project proponent, MHPF Glaisnock Land Pty Ltd, is an entity associated with MH Premium Farms (MHPF), a significant corporate agricultural landholder in Australia founded by Lord Michael Hintze. MHPF is known for acquiring high-quality aggregations and implementing sustainable management practices.
