Deltroit Environmental Planting Project

Project Information:
Deltroit Environmental Planting Project is an environmental planting project located at the historic Deltroit Station in Mundarlo, approximately 33 kilometres south of Gundagai and 40 kilometres east of Wagga Wagga in the Eastern Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in September 2025, the project initially covered 43.42 hectares before a variation in October 2025 expanded the project area to its current 53.13 hectares.
Environmental planting projects under the 2024 methodology involve establishing and maintaining a permanent mix of native tree and shrub species. These plantings are designed to reflect the structure and composition of the local native vegetation community and typically require a stocking density of at least 200 stems per hectare to achieve permanent forest cover. The Deltroit project uses tubestock and hiko cells to establish locally suited vegetation, specifically focusing on restoring Box-gum grassy woodland and mallee shrubland ecosystems.
The Mundarlo and wider South West Slopes region is highly regarded for its large-scale agricultural productivity, typically encompassing sheep and beef cattle grazing alongside cropping operations. Deltroit Station itself is a premier pastoral holding featuring fertile creek flats along Hillas Creek and soft undulating farming country. The region is supported by a reliable rainfall of around 650mm per annum.
The project is managed by the proponent, MHPF Watson Park Land Pty Ltd, which is part of MH Premium Farms, an extensive agricultural enterprise owned by businessman Sir Michael Hintze. The enterprise is actively integrating carbon sequestration into its commercial farming activities to move toward becoming a carbon-neutral farming business. Supported by a Living Carbon grant from the NSW Government, the project provides significant co-benefits to the property. Alongside greenhouse gas abatement, the native trees will stabilise soils along erosion-prone waterways, offer valuable future shade and shelter for livestock, and restore vital habitat connectivity for local threatened species, including the Squirrel Glider, Turquoise Parrot, Superb Parrot, and Brown Treecreeper.
