Deltroit Environmental Planting Project

Project Information:

Deltroit Environmental Planting Project is an environmental planting project located at Mundarlo, approximately 20km northwest of Gundagai and 60km east of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of NSW. It was registered in September 2025 and currently covers 53.13ha, following a variation in October 2025 that added more land to the project area.

Environmental planting projects under the 2024 FullCAM methodology involve establishing permanent plantings of mixed native tree and shrub species that reflect the local native vegetation community. To achieve carbon abatement, these projects are typically planted at a density of at least 200 stems per hectare to ensure they eventually reach forest canopy cover.

The Mundarlo and broader Gundagai area is largely defined by mixed farming, heavily utilized for sheep and cattle grazing alongside seasonal cropping operations. The region experiences a warm temperate climate with moderate annual rainfall averaging around 630mm. The local soils generally consist of highly productive alluvial plains along the Murrumbidgee River and fertile red-brown earths on the upland slopes.

This project was established using tubestock and hiko cells, supported by a Living Carbon grant from the NSW Government. The planting was designed to achieve multiple ecological and agricultural co-benefits, such as stabilising erosion-prone waterways and providing future shade and shelter for livestock. By restoring the native box-gum grassy woodland structure, the project will also increase crucial habitat connectivity for threatened local species like the squirrel glider. Additionally, the site is registered with Accounting for Nature (Account ID: AU00116) to independently measure and track the condition of its environmental assets.
