Pine Ridge Soil Carbon Project
ERF204663
Project Information:
Pine Ridge Soil Carbon Project is a soil carbon sequestration project located approximately 10km southwest of the township of The Rock and 35km southwest of the major regional city of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales. Registered in August 2025, the project covers a project area of roughly 89 hectares. The proponent, Glenory Nominees Pty Ltd (trustee for the C J Burkinshaw Family Trust), has partnered with carbon service provider Select Carbon Pty Ltd to manage the project.
The project operates under the 2021 Soil Carbon methodology, formally known as the Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon Sequestration using Measurement and Models method. This framework credits landholders for increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks through changes in land management. For the Pine Ridge project, specific activities include altering grazing intensity and duration, such as moving to rotational grazing to allow pasture recovery, and re-establishing pastures through seeding or pasture cropping. These practices aim to increase biomass and ground cover, subsequently driving more carbon into the soil profile.
The surrounding Riverina region is a significant agricultural area defined by mixed farming, primarily dryland winter cropping (wheat, canola) and livestock grazing (sheep and cattle). The environment near The Rock typically experiences a temperate climate with an average annual rainfall of approximately 500mm to 550mm. The local soil landscape is dominated by Red Chromosols (also known as Red Brown Earths) and Red Kandosols. These soils are generally fertile and well-structured but can be susceptible to acidity and structure decline if over-cultivated, making them ideal candidates for soil carbon improvement projects that emphasize soil health and permanent ground cover.
